Supplements and Herbs with Claire Erickson
January 22, 1PM – 3PM $30
Join us for some interactive fun while learning about the myths, facts, fiction, regulations, and the pros and cons
of supplements and herbs. We'll delve into topics such as:
- What does "natural" mean
- How herbals have been around for centuries
- What role the government has in regulating supplements
- Common herbals and their uses
- How some herbals can be used for preventing diseases
Each student will receive handy information to take home!
Claire Erickson has a degree in Human Nutrition and Foods from Virginia Tech. She has worked for over 30 years
as a nutritionist as well as a weight loss counselor, diet therapist and as Director of Nutritional Services for
a hospital. She currently works for Internal Medicine Associates of Centreville. Additionally, she manages her own
company called "Weigh To Go".

Hips, Backs with Lorraine McCleary

The hips (pelvis and hip joint) and low back comprise the basic foundation we all need for standing and walking.
And when things go wrong here through aging, illness, or neglect... it can be painful to just sit or move. Come
and explore the hip and low back structure with the use of yoga to improve flexibility/strength of the hips and
back, poses for connective tissue and bone health, and ways to unlock stiffness and immobility. This class is open
to all levels of yoga and for those with body issues.

Meditation with Janet Kim
January 29, 1PM – 3 PM $30
Learn to meditate or deepen your practice. Janet will teach centering techniques from different traditions and how
these techniques can assist each of us on our inner journey of self-discovery. It is through meditation that we
experience inner joy. 2 CEU's
Janet Kim (RYT 500)
Janet started meditating in 1986 after attending a meditation intensive sponsored by SYDA Yoga held at Catholic
University. She received Shaktipat initiation from Gurumayi 2 years later in South Fallsburg, NY. Janet attended
Tibetan Buddhist meditation in 1990 and participated in weekly group meditation for several years. She was introduced
to Vipassana/mindfulness by Sarah Powers in 2005 and has been practicing for the past 3 years.
Janet is also a certified Anusaraź Yoga Instructor..

Choosing Nutritious Foods – Facts, Tips, and Tricks with Jennifer Zinck, Ph.D.
February 5, 1PM – 3PM $30
Many people associate improved food choices with dieting. However, the word "diet" conjures up images of hunger,
food deprivation and unsatisfied cravings. Fortunately, there are many tricks and tools you can use to improve
your overall nutritional intake and reduce the quantity of food you eat. Heighten your awareness about external
cues that cause poor food choices, learn how to decipher health claims and nutrition labels, and discuss simple
rules for selecting nutritious foods and creating balanced meals.
Jennifer has been studying yoga since 2002 and currently teaches yoga classes and nutrition workshops at the Health
Advantage Yoga Center in Herndon, VA. Jennifer has a Bachelor's degree in Biology and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Human
Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise. She currently works as a project manager for software applications created for the
NIH and FDA.

Healthy Heart Yoga with Kelly Tynes, Shernita Parker and Ely Razavi

Stretches For Athletes with Patt Wattanasup

Feel your joints have become stiff during the winter months? Come learn stretches and get ready for Spring with
us. This workshop will focus on applying yoga to benefit all athletes. Whether you're a golfer, tennis player, runner,
weight lifter, or cyclist, this workshop is designed to target muscles specifically used in each sports. You'll
learn how yoga can help improve flexibility, strengthen your core, increase range of motion, in order to prevent
injuries and enhance your performance. All levels. New students welcome.
